How to Deal with Job Oppurtunities Gone Amiss

Sooooo this happened to most people, so it probably happened to you or your cousin, sister, or best friend. You see this AMAZING "wanted" ad, it's your dream job. You excitedly send your CV and wait...and wait....and wait...nothing happens.
This often may feel like a punch in your face, but you've go to remember this: YOU'RE AWESOME! Say it out loud "I'm Awesome!" I'm serious.
Now that we've cleared that under-estimated-self obstacle, let's think about it this way.
The person who got your CV might not even have read it, having the position filled already, so it's nothing personal, it doesn't degrade you, or your capabilities. Even if the person DID read your CV, and for some bizzare reason wasn't impressed by your simply awesomesational qualities, don't take it to heart, we love you anyway, but more importantly-you should love yourself just the same!
Ok, it sucks not getting the job you wanted, but let's make that irritating "i'm not good enough" thought go away. By the way, if you think about that job for more than 36 hours, you're a workaholic...who thinks abut work for 36 hours? Not me! Soooooooo basically, I was saying, to make those funny irritating thoughts go away, try listening to music, working out, doing art, reading a book, watching a movie (not THAT  reccommended but okaaaaaay) or any other brain-filling activities you may think up (it's good to keep a list of those, just sayin').
Ciao for now!

How to Separate Your Personal Life from Work

Well, I had a quite funny post ready for this one, but a tragedy that ensued on my People today has changed that.
This morning, as I was leaving my house at 7am, i heard the dreadful sirens again. I say dreadful, because as someone who lives in Jerusalem, I've experienced several terror attacks, and the amount and variety of sirens heard leaves no room to wonder. I knew. There was another attack.
As I walked to the bus I prayed that no one be hurt. It was too late for that. 5 were murdered, 5 critically wounded, 3 badly wounded, and some panic-stricken survivors.
Traffic was crazy. I work in the west bank, and the soldiers were checking every.single.car. to make sure the 2 terrorists accomplice wouldn't get away. I had time to think about the post I wrote last week, the one I was going to post later this week, or next week. It seemed so lame. How can I separate this tragedy from work? This wasn't my personal life. It was the life of my People.
Finally arriving at work, I realized I wasn't the only one feeling that way. Many of my colleagues were personally acquainted with the victims: Rabbi Moshe Twersky HYD, Rabbi Avraham Shmuel Goldberg HYD, Rabbi Kalman Levin HYD. The 4th victim is Aryeh Kupinsky HYD. We must also reember the police officer who risked his life for others: Zidan Sayif/
Work didn't ensue as normal today. There was a lot of crying, a lot of praying. No one cares about deadlines or progress reports in times like this. Times of a People tragedy.

How to get rid of WOWphobia

Diet

This might sound very irrational to all you coffee lovers, but starting your day with a cup of coffee doesn't necessary boost you. Try starting it with 2 cups of water instead. (You can drink those on the way to work, I won't spoil your "working coffee" fun).
Those chips in your bag (yep I see them, you're not hiding them well enough), they're enough to get you in a sour mood for the rest of the day. Change them for an apple, a carrot, or a cucumber (my personal favs). You can keep the chocolate if you want, but limit yourself to 2 cubes a day.
If you have time in the morning, or at night, you can prepare a yummy salad (no need to buy an overpriced one, really). Stock up on lettuce, cucumbers and tomatoes (the basics), and be original. You can add hearts-of-palm, or pumpkin, or nuts, or mangos, or chicken. Anything can go in a salad.

Sport

If you're walking distance from work-WALK, or ride a bike, or a horse. But don't turtle-walk, that'll give you too much time to think about work. Try Power-walking. It'll give you a boost of energy, and a chance to drink those 2 cups of water I was talking about.

If you must drive, try parking 2 blocks away so you can get at least a 10 minute walk every day. It's important for your bloodflow, and, guess what? For your confidence. Did you know excersicing increases your self esteem and confidence? If you feel competent, others will feel it about you too.

Take a bus to work every day? I feel your pain. Try getting off a stop or two before your destination. If it's morning, and you're running late, leave it for the afternoon (that's what I do). But don't leave it entirely out of your schedule. Remember, exercise=confidence.

Ok, you got to work. Same. Exact. Desk. Same. Exact. People.  Well, there's nothing I can do about the people you work with. Lets focus on your ENVIRONMENT.

A work environment can be very dull. And messy. Let's focus on the "dull" part for a moment.
If you work in a cubicle, like I do, the walls might get boring, and that's all that surrounds you for 7 hours a day. Try spicing it up, I added butterflies.
Make sure you don't over-spice it though, it might distract you. You can change your mouse pad every once in a while, you'd be surprised how the entire look of the desk will get affected by it.

Are you messy? I am. But I need the mess. Most people find it hard to concentrate when their desk is cluttered. Here are the essential things you need on your desk:

*Computer
*Keyboard
*Mouse
*Pen
*Post-it notes
*Water bottle

What was that? A phone? Your phone isn't essential for your desk. It is bound to distract you from work. So unless you're expecting an important call, leave it in your bag, or in your drawer (if you have one). Even if the phone is on silent, resisting to check your messages every 5 minutes is really hard.

Try not to have too many cables around you. There are all kinds of neat tricks to organize them. Here is a link to a bunch of them:
WATERWATERWATERWATER

Remember to drink 8-10 cups a day. (Tip: it'll cause you to go to the bathroom more often, thus allowing you to stretch your legs). You can put a pop-up reminder on your desktop, which will remind you to drink.

Breaks

Try taking a few short breaks during your work day. You might think it's wasting your time, but it is actually increasing your productivity. Walk around the office, or, if you can, go outside to get some fresh air (no smoking, DUH).
Sitting Position
For the proper sitting position when sitting at the computer, click the link below: http://www.wikihow.com/Sit-at-a-Computer
Tip: if you're feet don't reach the ground when you're at work, bring a plastic box to rest your feet on. Leaving them dangling isn't comfortable, and sitting like a pretzel for 7 hours makes your feet numb (experience speaking here folks).

Hoooooooome

Before you leave work, think of what made you happy that day, repeat it the next day. Then think of what bothered you, and think of a solution for that, so it won't bother you again. Feel free to ask for advice. It's what I'm here for.

Ciao for now folks,

Do I Suffer from WOWphobia?

To determine if you are, indeed, suffering from WOWphobia, answer the following questions to the best of your ability:

1. Is getting up in the morning complete torture for you?

a. Of course
b. You mean some people just get up? Without setting eight alarm clocks?
c. I don't need to get up, I have nightmares from work

2. How do you get to work?

a. I drive, and pick traffic-y lanes to delay my arrival

b. I take a bus/train so I can catch a few more minutes of sleep
c. I walk, very slowly, to detent the bomb, oops, I meant getting to work

3. How do you make your coffee?

a. Put some coffee and sugar in a cup, then add hot water and milk. Nothing can sweeten a work day anyway
b. Boil water, carefully measure my coffee and sugar, pour some water into my mug (no plastic cups for me!), wait for 4 seconds, then add more water, and finally add milk.
c. Do what person (b) does, except I taste it before I get to my desk, and usually add sugar. Or coffee. Or milk. Or water. And then walk slowly (I care about the carpet)

4. What is the first thing you do when you get to your desk?

a. Turn on my computer, and praying I won't be bored all day
b. Put my coffee down, then my bag, say good morning to everyone around me, then proceed to turning on my computer. Why the rush? Work ain't going nowhere
c. Retrace my steps to make sure nothing spilled on the way, do what person (b) did, by then my coffee is cold, so I go make a new one

Ok, now that you're done with these personal and possibly intrusive questions (sorry!) check your answers.
If most of your answers were A, you haven't been at your workplace for long
enough. Give it a few months, and you'll hit B in no time!

If most of your answers are B, you're suffering from mild WOWphobia, which can be treated using the methods below.

If you answered C to most questions, well, you're in trouble, and so am I. Try getting a new job (employers, don't kill me), if you have any other helpful
insights on conquering WOWphobia, feel free to comment below.

Watch out for the next post titled How to Get Rid of  My WOWphobia

What is WOWphobia?

What is WOWphobia?

WOWphobia is the fear of being worn out at work. Common symptoms include:

Seven alarm clocks in the morning
Coffee stir and stir and stir
Tiredness
Boredom
Turtle walk

In this blog, I will attempt to aid those suffering from this feeling, by listening, giving tips, and with an occassional sense of humor.
